What do manual menu updates actually cost?

The software is free. The hours aren't. Put in your store's numbers and see what slides-and-retyping runs you a year.

Your Store

Defaults are deliberately conservative — adjust everything to your store. Estimates only.

Per Year, Doing It By Hand

$2,340 in payroll spent retyping menus
130 hrs of somebody's year
16 days of full 8-hour shifts

And that's just the typing — it doesn't count sales lost while the board shows products you don't have.

Where those hours go instead

With POS-synced menus, price and stock changes reach every screen on their own — about ten minutes behind the register, no retyping. The menu work that's left is the part worth doing: planning specials and campaigns, with Seed designers included to build them. Stores typically go from signed to live in about a week.

The fine print, answered

Where do the default numbers come from?

They're deliberately conservative assumptions, not a study: ten menu changes a week is two per day (price changes, sold-out pulls, new drops, specials going up and coming down), and fifteen minutes covers finding the file, editing it, exporting it, and getting it back onto the screen. If your store runs hotter than that — most do — raise the inputs and watch the number move.

Does menu software really take this to zero?

The retyping goes to zero — with POS sync, price and stock changes flow to every screen on their own, about ten minutes behind the register. What stays is the work you actually want to do: designing specials and campaigns. With Seed, a design team is included for that part.

What doesn't this calculator count?

The expensive part: sales lost while the menu is wrong. A board that shows sold-out products generates walk-outs and awkward register conversations no spreadsheet captures. The hours here are just the visible, payroll-line cost of doing menus by hand.

What does Seed cost against this number?

Seed is priced per location — unlimited screens and users — and we quote your exact number on a demo call, usually against a setup that's live about a week after you sign. Bring this page's number with you; the comparison is the whole conversation.

I run kiosks too — is there math for that?

Kiosks are a different equation (they absorb transactions, not menu edits). The kiosk cost guide walks through hardware, software models, and the labor math on that side.
