KIOSKS IN MINNESOTA

Built for the room Minnesota actually has

Regulars want out in five minutes; first-timers want to read without being hovered over. Kiosks serve both: an express lane for the shoppers who know their order, and pressure-free browsing for the ones still deciding — sort, filter, and read at their own pace, which matters in a store where the products live behind glass. Checkout asks for three things — first name, last name, phone number — and the order lands in your POS.

Seed kiosk showing a larger average order

40% higher average order value

Nobody explores add-ons while a line forms behind them. Kiosks let shoppers browse without the clock — and our recommendation engine suggests relevant products at the moments that matter. Less rush, bigger carts.

150% more loyalty sign-ups

Enrollment happens at the kiosk, mid-order, with no extra step at the counter — which is why stores see dramatically more sign-ups than on standard kiosks. Loyalty grows while the line moves.

Seed Touch kiosk in a dispensary

Your brand on the glass, not ours

Kiosks are fully white-label: your colors, your logo, your voice. And checkout asks shoppers for exactly three things — first name, last name, phone number — because sixteen form fields is how you end a line-skipping express lane.

IN-STORE SCREEN RULES · MINNESOTA

What you can show on screens in Minnesota

By statutory definition, "advertisement" includes interior signs in a cannabis business, so an in-store screen that promotes products, brands, or sales is subject to the advertising statute: it must carry the OCM warning text, and it may not contain false or misleading statements, unverified health or therapeutic claims, content promoting overconsumption, imagery that appeals to under-21s, depictions of under-21 consumption, or alcohol imagery. No restriction on displaying prices or discounts was found, but retailers may not give away product, so "free product" promotions are out. Outdoor advertising is prohibited and exterior signage is limited to two fixed signs; whether a screen visible through a window counts as outdoor advertising is not resolved in the sources read. Retailers must post recall notices, a driving statement, a 21+ statement, and "No persons under 21 allowed" at each entrance, which a screen can carry. A plain menu that only lists products and prices is not specifically addressed.

Applies to: adult-use and medical cannabis businesses. Regulator: Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM).

  • Interior signs in a cannabis business are advertisements by statutory definition. “includes any newspaper, radio, Internet and electronic media, or television promotion; the distribution of fliers and circulars; and the display of window and interior signs” (Minn. Stat. § 342.01, subd. 5)
  • Every advertisement must carry the OCM-specified impairment and health warning. “Warning: Cannabis products are not for use by anyone under the age of 21. Cannabis use may cause drowsiness, affect focus, reaction time, and decision-making.” (Minn. Stat. § 342.64, subd. 1(7); OCM Guidance Memo GM-2025-07)
  • No false or misleading statements, no unverified health or therapeutic claims, no promotion of overconsumption. (Minn. Stat. § 342.64, subd. 1(1)-(3))
  • No imagery likely to appeal to under-21s (cartoons, toys, animals, children); no depiction of a person under 21 consuming; no alcohol imagery. “includes an image designed or likely to appeal to individuals under 21 years of age, including cartoons, toys, animals, or children” (Minn. Stat. § 342.64, subd. 1(4)-(6))
  • Outdoor advertising is prohibited; a business may erect up to two fixed exterior signs. Whether a screen visible through a window is outdoor advertising is not resolved. “may erect up to two fixed outdoor signs on the exterior of the building or property of the cannabis business” (Minn. Stat. § 342.64, subd. 2(b))
  • No advertising in a medium where 30 percent or more of the audience is expected to be under 21; retail areas are limited to 21+ or registered patients. (Minn. Stat. § 342.64, subd. 3; Minn. R. 9810.2501)
  • Retailers may not give away product, so free-product promotions are not allowed; no restriction on advertising prices or discounts was found. (Minn. Stat. § 342.27, subd. 12(3))
  • Required postings (recall notices, the driving statement, the 21+ statement) and the entrance sign "No persons under 21 allowed" can be carried on in-store displays. (Minn. Stat. § 342.27, subd. 6; Minn. R. 9810.2501, subp. 1)
  • No provisions on depiction of adult consumption, video or motion signs, pre-approval, or fees were found. (Minn. Stat. § 342.64; Minn. R. ch. 9810)

Potency on menus: No rule found for menus or screens. Potency appears in packaging and labeling requirements and on display-sample labels.

Where the rule is "keep it accurate," a menu that reads from the POS does the work: sold-out products drop off on their own and the price on the wall is the price at the register. Where the rule is about content, the layout and the campaign are yours to keep inside the lines.

Kiosks in Minnesota: questions, answered

Do Minnesota dispensaries use self-service kiosks?

Yes — self-service is standard equipment in modern dispensaries, the same way it is in airports and quick-service restaurants. Seed runs screens in 950+ storefronts across 36 states and D.C. Minnesota’s state-licensed market launched in September 2025 and is still building out — new stores here get to skip the whiteboard era entirely.

Does a Seed kiosk work with my POS?

That’s the point of it. Kiosks populate from your live inventory through our API integrations — Dutchie, Treez, Blaze, Flowhub, COVA, and more — so shoppers only see in-stock products at the correct price, and orders land in your POS for fulfillment. See how the sync works.

Will the kiosk say Seed on it?

No — your kiosks are white-label. Your brand, your colors, your menu. Shoppers experience your store, not our logo.

Will self-service replace my budtenders?

Only as much as you want it to. Some stores run kiosks as the primary ordering channel and point staff at fulfillment; others use them as a pressure valve for rush hours. Your floor, your call — the kiosk just makes the choice available.

What does a kiosk cost?

Seed pricing is per location with unlimited screens and users — a kiosk doesn’t add a line item. Hardware runs on Elo touchscreens or iPads (2018 and newer). The full breakdown, hardware included, is in our dispensary kiosk cost guide.

How fast can my store go live?

Most stores go from signed to screens live in about a week. Book a demo — we’ll show your actual menu on a kiosk, not a mockup.
