TV MENUS IN ILLINOIS

The menu is the store

Illinois caps retail licenses, so every store serves a bigger crowd — throughput is the difference between a good Friday and a line out the door. The menu is the most-read thing in the store. When it’s wrong — a sold-out SKU still up, a stale price — your budtenders spend the day apologizing for it. When it’s synced, they sell.

LIVE POS SYNC

Never sell what you don’t have.

Sold out? Off the menu before anyone asks for it. New price at the register? On the wall without anyone retyping a thing. Seed menus read your live POS inventory, so the most-read surface in your store is also the most accurate.

IN-STORE SCREEN RULES · ILLINOIS

What you can show on screens in Illinois

The Illinois statute defines "advertise" to include the display of window and interior signs, so in-store screens fall under the advertising section. Screen content may not be false or misleading, promote overconsumption, depict consumption, make health or therapeutic claims, show a cannabis leaf or bud, or use imagery that appeals to minors; educational messages are exempt. Giveaways, consumption games, and child-appealing promotions are prohibited, bundled one-price deals are prohibited, and suppliers may not pay for preferential placement on shelves, display cases, or the website. Prices and discounts may be displayed. Dispensaries must post the 24-by-36-inch placards required by rule, and handouts cannot replace them. No rule addresses visibility through windows, warnings on advertisements, video, or pre-approval.

Applies to: adult-use and medical dispensing organizations. Regulator: Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

  • Interior signs are advertising under the Act; a name-only exterior sign is excluded. “the distribution of fliers and circulars; billboard advertising; and the display of window and interior signs” (410 ILCS 705/1-10)
  • No false or misleading content, no promotion of overconsumption, and no depiction of actual consumption. (410 ILCS 705/55-20(a)(1)-(3))
  • No health, medicinal, or therapeutic claims. “makes any health, medicinal, or therapeutic claims about cannabis or cannabis-infused products” (410 ILCS 705/55-20(a)(5))
  • No image of a cannabis leaf or bud, and no imagery likely to appeal to minors, including cartoons, toys, animals, or children. “includes the image of a cannabis leaf or bud” (410 ILCS 705/55-20(a)(6)-(7))
  • Educational messages are exempt from the content and placement bans. (410 ILCS 705/55-20(c))
  • No giveaways of cannabis, no games or competitions tied to consumption, and no child-appealing promotional materials; no ban on advertising prices or discounts was found. “by giving away cannabis or cannabis products, by conducting games or competitions related to the consumption of cannabis or cannabis products” (410 ILCS 705/55-20(d))
  • Bundled one-price sales are prohibited; each item must be separately priced. (410 ILCS 705/15-70(p)(17))
  • Suppliers may not pay for preferential placement on shelves, display cases, or the website; screens are not mentioned. “in exchange for preferential placement on the dispensing organization’s shelves, display cases, or website” (410 ILCS 705/15-70(q))
  • Advertising may not be placed within 1,000 feet of schools, playgrounds, child care centers, parks, or libraries, or on transit and public property. (410 ILCS 705/55-20(b))
  • Required in-store placards (impairment and pregnancy warning, anonymous-purchase notice, edible notices, prohibited-activity notices) must be at least 24 by 36 inches with 2-inch letters; handouts cannot substitute. “Handouts shall not be used in place of the required signage.” (68 Ill. Adm. Code 1291.305)
  • No rule on visibility from outside, warnings on advertisements, pre-approval, fees, video or motion signs, or sign counts was found. (410 ILCS 705/55-20; 68 Ill. Adm. Code 1291)

Potency on menus: No rule found for menus or screens. Labels must state THC, THCA, CBD, and CBDA content (410 ILCS 705/55-21).

Where the rule is "keep it accurate," a menu that reads from the POS does the work: sold-out products drop off on their own and the price on the wall is the price at the register. Where the rule is about content, the layout and the campaign are yours to keep inside the lines.

TV menus in Illinois: questions, answered

Which POS systems does Seed support in Illinois?

The majors: Dutchie, Treez, Blaze, Flowhub, COVA, LeafLogix, Meadow, Weave, MJ Freeway, IndicaOnline, and more. Products, prices, stock status, and specials flow from your POS to every screen automatically — here’s exactly what syncs.

How fast do menu changes show up on screen?

Menus re-check your POS about every ten minutes by default, and you can trigger an immediate refresh from Seed Manager whenever you need one. We’d rather tell you the real number than claim “instant.”

Do I need to buy new TVs?

No. Seed runs on any TV with an HDMI port. Most stores use the Amazon Signage Stick (code SEEDSAMZN takes 10% off) or an Apple TV 4K. The full rundown is on our hardware page, and the TV buying guide covers sizes, panels, and what to skip.

Can I show my deals and specials?

Deals are what screens do best. Specials sync from your POS along with everything else — including strike-through pricing — and Seed’s campaign tools let you feature a deal big on any screen, at any store, on a schedule.

What does it cost?

Pricing is per location with unlimited screens, playlists, and users — add a screen over the register or three more down the sales floor and your bill stays put. Book a demo for a quote on your store count.

How fast can my store go live?

Most Illinois stores would follow the same playbook as everywhere else: signed to screens live in about a week, with our design team building your first layouts from your brand. Book a demo and we’ll show your actual menu on screen.
