TV MENUS IN NEW JERSEY

The menu is the store

New Jersey is scaling town by town, and new stores open into real competition on day one — the store that looks finished earns trust first. The menu is the most-read thing in the store. When it’s wrong — a sold-out SKU still up, a stale price — your budtenders spend the day apologizing for it. When it’s synced, they sell.

LIVE POS SYNC

Never sell what you don’t have.

Sold out? Off the menu before anyone asks for it. New price at the register? On the wall without anyone retyping a thing. Seed menus read your live POS inventory, so the most-read surface in your store is also the most accurate.

Feature the brands you want to move, schedule the weekend promo weeks ahead, and run holiday campaigns across every screen without opening a design app. If someone on your team rebuilds menu graphics every morning, your signage is costing you payroll.

IN-STORE SCREEN RULES · NEW JERSEY

What you can show on screens in New Jersey

Inside a New Jersey store, a screen may carry product listings, brand imagery, and safe-use information, and interior advertising is exempt from the 200-foot school buffer. Any advertisement of a cannabis product must carry the full CRC warning and a statement that the business is licensed by the State, and the rule states no in-premises exemption. Price advertising is prohibited except a catalogue or printed price list available at the business, or prices on a website; the rule does not say whether an interior digital price menu qualifies as a printed list, so that point is not settled. No cannabis or brand advertising may face the exterior, and products may not be clearly visible from outside. Medical alternative treatment centers face stricter signage rules: black text on white, never illuminated, printed price lists only to patients and caregivers. No pre-approval, fee, sign-count, or in-store video rule was found.

Applies to: adult-use retailers under N.J.A.C. 17:30; medical alternative treatment centers under N.J.A.C. 17:30A, with stricter signage rules. Regulator: New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJ-CRC).

  • Advertising is permitted only where at least 71.6 percent of the audience is reasonably expected to be 21 or older, with audience records kept. (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(a), (f))
  • Any advertisement of a cannabis product must carry the full CRC warning; no in-premises exemption is stated. “This product contains cannabis. For use only by adults 21 years of age or older. Keep out of the reach of children.” (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(b))
  • Any advertisement must state that the facility is licensed by the State of New Jersey. (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(c))
  • No content that targets or is designed to appeal to people under 21. (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(d)1)
  • The 200-foot school buffer does not apply to advertisements within the retailer’s premises. “This paragraph shall not apply to advertisements within the premises of a cannabis retailer” (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(d)3.i)
  • No claims that products are safe because they are regulated or lab-tested; no promotion of rapid consumption or overconsumption; comparative safety or efficacy claims need two or more adequate, well-controlled studies. (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(d)9-11)
  • No cannabis or brand advertising on the building exterior, only identifying signage with the licensed name; products and paraphernalia may not be clearly visible from outside. “Display cannabis and cannabis paraphernalia in a manner that is clearly visible to a person from the exterior of a cannabis business” (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(e)1, (e)3)
  • Price advertising is prohibited except a catalogue or printed price list available at the business, or prices on the business’s own or a third-party website. Whether an in-store digital menu showing prices qualifies is not addressed. “may make available a catalogue or a printed list of the prices and strains or cultivars of cannabis items at the cannabis business” (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(e)4)
  • No commercial mascot near the premises; no promotional gifts or novelty items bearing cannabis references. (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17.2(e)2, (e)5)
  • Retailers must offer clearly visible safe-use information at the point of sale, which a screen can carry. (N.J.A.C. 17:30-14.3(i))
  • No rule on video, motion, or moving signs inside a store; no sign count or size limit; no pre-approval or fee was found. (N.J.A.C. 17:30-17)
  • Medical alternative treatment centers: exterior signage black text on white and never illuminated; no exterior product or brand ads; printed price lists only to patients and caregivers; no product visible from outside. (N.J.A.C. 17:30A-12.1)

Potency on menus: No rule found for menus or screens. Potency is a labeling requirement under N.J.A.C. 17:30.

Where the rule is "keep it accurate," a menu that reads from the POS does the work: sold-out products drop off on their own and the price on the wall is the price at the register. Where the rule is about content, the layout and the campaign are yours to keep inside the lines.

TV menus in New Jersey: questions, answered

Which POS systems does Seed support in New Jersey?

The majors: Dutchie, Treez, Blaze, Flowhub, COVA, LeafLogix, Meadow, Weave, MJ Freeway, IndicaOnline, and more. Products, prices, stock status, and specials flow from your POS to every screen automatically — here’s exactly what syncs.

How fast do menu changes show up on screen?

Menus re-check your POS about every ten minutes by default, and you can trigger an immediate refresh from Seed Manager whenever you need one. We’d rather tell you the real number than claim “instant.”

Do I need to buy new TVs?

No. Seed runs on any TV with an HDMI port. Most stores use the Amazon Signage Stick (code SEEDSAMZN takes 10% off) or an Apple TV 4K. The full rundown is on our hardware page, and the TV buying guide covers sizes, panels, and what to skip.

Can I show my deals and specials?

Deals are what screens do best. Specials sync from your POS along with everything else — including strike-through pricing — and Seed’s campaign tools let you feature a deal big on any screen, at any store, on a schedule.

What does it cost?

Pricing is per location with unlimited screens, playlists, and users — add a screen over the register or three more down the sales floor and your bill stays put. Book a demo for a quote on your store count.

How fast can my store go live?

Most New Jersey stores would follow the same playbook as everywhere else: signed to screens live in about a week, with our design team building your first layouts from your brand. Book a demo and we’ll show your actual menu on screen.
